Dominique Lapierre (born July 30, 1931 in Châtelaillon , Charente-Maritime department , France ) is a French writer and humanist.

Life

During his military service in Paris he met the American soldier Larry Collins . Their friendship lasted until Larry Collins' death on June 20, 2005, and the duo's collaboration resulted in several bestsellers, including Brennt Paris? , filmed in 1966 by René Clément .

The writers team devoted his novels of recent history  : Or will you wear mourning revolves around the amazing fate of an orphan, that in Spain the Civil War of the 1930s, a millionaire is, where it is one of the most notorious bullfighters of history, the Lapierre and Collins Sing an incredibly long song of praise in this novel. Dominique Lapierre's solo works revolve around drastic themes of human misery from Calcutta's slums to the AIDS victims. In 1981 he set up a foundation for children with leprosy in Calcutta . There he also worked closely with Mother Teresa . His experiences in Calcutta inspired him to create the City of Joy , filmed with Patrick Swayze in the leading role. Mother Teresa gave him permission to make a film about her life and that of her sisters: Mother Teresa- In The Name of God's Poor . The main role was given to Geraldine Chaplin . His travels to all continents lead to the work of Mille Soleil , which is about the extraordinary people that Dominique Lapierre has come to know and appreciate. With the income from the copyrights, he expanded his humanitarian aid in India . He succeeded in eradicating tuberculosis in over 1,200 villages.

Lapierre was a major overseas reporter for Paris Match .
