K. Radhakrishnan ( Koppillil Radhakrishnan ; born August 29, 1949 in Irinjalakuda , Kerala ) is an Indian space official and since 2009 head of the Indian national space agency ISRO .

Life

Born in Irinjalakuda in the Thrissur district in the state of Kerala, K. Radhakrishnan completed his training as an engineer (B.Sc.Eng.) At the Government Engineering College in Thrissur in 1970 . Radhakrishnan studied at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore (PGDM, 1975) and the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur , where he completed his postgraduate studies (Ph.D.) in 2000 . In 2007, Radhakrishnan was appointed director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) at Thiruvananthapuram , Kerala, where he had worked as a project manager since 1971. He represented the VSSC in national and international bodies and authorities. Radhakrishnan has been head of the Indian Space Research Organization since October 30, 2009 and is responsible, among other things, for the Mars Orbiter Mission .

In addition to his work at ISRO, K. Radhakrishnan is known in India as a Kathakali performer and vocalist of South Indian classical music ( Carnatic music ).
