Laberinto is a Venezuelan crossover band from Caracas that was formed in 1989.

history

The band was formed in 1989 and consisted of singer Raymundo Ceballos, guitarists Pablo Minoli and Richard Rodriguez, bassist Ruben Sposito and drummer Marco Toro Bernal. In addition to covering songs by bands like Testament and Anthrax , the group developed their first own songs. In 1992 the band relocated to Amsterdam and after a time as street musicians (who played traditional South American music) went on a European tour in 1995 , with performances in Switzerland as well as Italy , Hungary and Germany , including performances at the German Wacken Open Air and the Hungarian Island Music Festival . After the band had signed a contract with the Dutch label Mascot Records , the album Priority was released in 1996 , of which about 20,000 units sold. Further appearances followed, including in Eindhoven at the Dynamo Open Air and the Cologne Bizarre Festival . In addition, the band was seen on the program Rockpalast . In 1998 the second album Freakeao , which had been produced by Sander Jansen , was released. This was followed by appearances with, among others, Frozen Sun , before the album Another Style , produced by Attie Bauw , followed in 2000 . In the same year, the live album Live , which was recorded at a concert in Amsterdam in March 2000, was released. In addition to the five permanent band members, a pianist , additional percussionists and four wind instruments were also present. In 2003 the album Decada was released , before the album The World Might Suck was released in 2008 , which Laberinto recorded with the hip-hop group Osdorp Posse . Ronny Tuman was on the 2010 album Mask of a Thousand Faces , produced by Abel Canizales and Marco Toro , pre- produced at Excess Studios in Rotterdam and mixed and mastered in Miami by Alex Garcia and Bob St. John new singer to hear. In her career, the band among other things, along with groups of Marilyn Manson , Cradle of Filth , Testament , Helmet , Tiamat , Machine Head , Sick of It All , Exodus , The Offspring , Moonspell , Napalm Death , Limp Bizkit and Korn occurred .

style

According to Holger Stratmann in the Rock Hard Encyclopedia , the band plays a mixture of metal and hardcore punk , with the group increasingly incorporating influences from Latin American music , especially salsa , since 1991 . In addition, the band initially sang in Spanish, but later switched to English. In the song Barlovento , which can be found on the self-titled EP, the band sounds "as if Slayers were having a cockfight with Tito Puento [SIC!]". Henning Richter from Metal Hammer heard influences from Thrash Metal in the band , which the group mixes with Latin American music. In his review of Priority, Richter describes as " Machine Head meet Santana , Latino rhythms, jungle atmosphere and metal". The band makes use of bongos , congas and timbales , among other things . The threatening song usually denounces the wealth gap between the third world and industrialized countries . According to Richter, the band continues their style on Frekeao . The band combine Latino rhythms with Nu-Metal elements. In the songs, however, there is now a lack of melody and the singing is usually more of shouting than real singing. In his review of Live , Matthias Mineur stated that the music he describes as "Latino Metal" slips more into the realm of Heavy Metal . The guitar riffs would fluctuate between Pantera and South American folklore . The singing is usually performed in rapped form. Sonja Lattwesen said in Rock Hard that the “Gefrickel und Gebreake ” was like “third-class free jazz ”. And further: "In addition, a would-be Santana sluggles old-fashioned riffs in slow motion." At least the various Latin American characteristics ensured a passable rhythm.
