Dynamo Open Air

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dynamo Open Air was a music festival in the Netherlands that took place there almost every year from 1986 to 2005.

history

First of all, the number of spectators increased exponentially from year to year: in 1986 there were 5,000 spectators who gathered in the parking lot of the Dynamo Rock Club in Eindhoven to celebrate its 5th anniversary. At the height of the festival's history in 1995, the audience had grown to 118,000 people. Because this led to a significant overload of the infrastructure (including record traffic jams on the access roads), the festival was only approved for 1996 with the condition that a maximum of 60,000 tickets should be sold. From then on, audience numbers dropped and the organizers had constant problems finding a permanent venue.

In 1999 the Dynamo Open Air was held at a former landfill near Eindhoven. In the following year another move to the Goffertpark in Nijmegen was planned . For the first time the festival took place outside the province of Noord-Brabant , for the first time in several years it only lasted one day (before that, the Dynamo had always been a 2 or 3 day festival).

In 2001 the organizers believed they had finally found a place near the town of Lichtenvoorde where the dynamo could find a permanent home. However, the festival had to be canceled due to the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic that had just emerged . The 2002 edition of the festival took place at the venue of the Bospop festival. After the festival was canceled again in 2003, it was able to take place again in Nijmegen in 2004, where it had already been held in 2000. The last festival for the time being took place in 2005 at the location of the Dauwpop festival , with the reunited band Anthrax as the main attraction.

The Dynamo Metal Fest has been held as its successor since 2015 .
