Exumer is a German thrash metal band.
Band history
It was founded in 1984 in Wiesbaden by Mem Von Stein, Ray Mensh, Bernie Siedler, and Syke Bornetto. A year later the band produced a demo tape with three songs and released their debut album Possessed by Fire a good year later . A year later she released her second and last album Rising from the Sea with the new singer Paul Arakari. In 1989 the demo Whips & Chains appeared with a greatly changed line-up, after which the band broke up.
A good ten years after the separation, the band played a concert at the 2001 Wacken Open Air .
In 2009 there was an official reunion, which began with a concert at the 12th Keep-it-true Festival. The band performed without Syke Bornetto and Bernie Siedler and played 4 more concerts in Germany, Greece and the United States in the same month, which were combined into the "5 Nights of Fire" tour. Further concerts and new song material have also been announced.
In 2010 the line-up changed. Paul Arakari and JP Rapp got out. The guitarist HK and the drummer Matthias Kassner were hired as new members. In 2011 the band signed a contract with Metal Blade and a new CD called "Fire And Damnation" was released in spring 2012. In July 2013, the band announced the separation from guitarist HK
Holger "HK" Kolb died on August 1, 2014 as a result of lung cancer.
style
Exumer plays rough Thrash Metal that is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath , Motörhead , Venom , Slayer and Exodus .
meaning
While the debut album Possessed by Fire is still very well known, especially in the underground, the second album Rising from the Sea is considered to be significantly less inspired, mainly due to the change of singer. Matthias Herr writes in his Heavy Metal Lexicon :
"For unknown reasons, a Frankfurt quartet that was predestined to become the flagship of German Thrash / Speed in the tradition of the old Exodus ran aground in the Main."
