Gluecifer is a rock band from Oslo , Norway , formed in 1994 , which split up in 2005. At the end of 2017 the band reunited and announced several shows for 2018.

history

The band made some underground recordings in the early years of their existence and soon called themselves the Kings of Rock .

In 1997 the band achieved their artistic and commercial breakthrough with the album Ridin 'the Tiger , which was released on the White Jazz label , which placed them ahead of the Hellacopters from Sweden in the “Scandinavian rock wave of the late 1990s” . Gluecifer and the Hellacopters jointly released the split albums Respect the Rock (1997) and Respect the Rock America (1999).

With their fourth album, Basement Apes (2002), the band signed a contract with Sony Music , which made Automatic Thrill (2004) their personal bestseller. In the same year, Gluecifer appeared as the opening act on the Monster Magnet Tour and thus increased their level of awareness again. The group was the opening act for the Toten Hosen on their Friss or Dies tour in 2004. That year Gluecifer played a total of 101 concerts. Singer Biff Malibu wrote the book 101 - A year on tour with Gluecifer , in which he describes the daily life of the band as well as earlier memories.

For the last two albums Gluecifer was nominated for the Spellemann Prize.

Gluecifer contributed the song Desolate City for the Norwegian thriller drama Izzat . The song was released with the compilation Kings of Rock - B-Sides and Rarities in 2008.

In July 2005 the band announced their separation because Biff Malibu and Raldo Useless had no more movivation. The dissolution took place after a farewell tour at the end of 2005.

Gluecifer was considered one of the most successful rock bands in Norway.

The name of the band is composed of the words Lucifer or Lucifer and glue (English for glue ).

Captain Poon, guitarist and backing vocalist for Gluecifer, founded the band Bloodlights about a year after they split up . The drummer Danny Young plays a. a. with Bela B. y Los Helmstedt and together with guitarist Raldo Useless in the band Smoke Mohawk.

In the film The Social Network , the song Black Book Lodge can be heard as part of the soundtrack.

On October 9, 2015, all five of Gluecifer's regular studio albums were re-released as LPs under Captain Poon's own label, Konkurs Productions .

In 2016 Captain Poon was on tour as guitarist with Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg .

On November 21, 2017, Gluecifer announced a joint concert for the Azkena Rock Festival in Bilbao in June 2018 on Gluecifer's social media pages . This was followed by other announced appearances, eight dates have been confirmed so far.
