Marky Ramone (* 15. July 1952 in New York City as Marc Bell ) is an American drummer . From 1978 he became known to an international audience as a member of the US punk band Ramones .

Career

Marc Bell was a member of the band Dust from 1971 to 1972 , with whom he recorded two records. In 1977 he recorded with the New York punk band around Richard Hell , The Voidoids , their album Blank Generation .

In 1978, Marc Bell succeeded drummer Tommy Ramone as a member of the Ramones, which had existed since 1974 and, following the band principle, adopted the pseudonym Marky Ramone . With an interruption from 1983 to 1987 - according to his own statements, he was being treated for his addiction problem - he was their drummer until the band split up in 1996. Since 2004 Marky and CJ Ramone are the last two surviving members of the last formation of the Ramones.

After the Ramones dissolved, he founded the band Intruders , with whom he released the self-titled album Marky Ramone and the Intruders in 1997 . A second album, Don't Blame Me, followed in 1999 . After a few tours, which also brought them to Europe, the band broke up again. Since 2000 he played with the bands Buckweeds , The Speed ​​Kings and Misfits , and since 2006 with Osaka Popstar . He is considered a big fan of science fiction films of the 1950s.

Marky Ramone had a few guest appearances with the Brazilian punk band Tequila Baby from Porto Alegre. Among other things, he can be heard on the CD and DVD Tequila Baby & Marky Ramone Live (2006).

In 2007 Marky Ramone toured various clubs with the band. He is currently on tour with his band Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg , with Michale Graves initially serving as the singer, and for the 2013 tour Andrew WK Ramone served as the model for a character in Alan Robert's comic Killogy.

In 2015 his autobiography Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life as a Ramone was published.
