Mondo Bizarro is the twelfth studio album by the American punk band Ramones . It was recorded from January 20, 1992 and was released in September of the same year.

History of origin

Mondo Bizarro was the band's first studio album in three years after Brain Drain and is the first to feature new bassist CJ Ramone . Its predecessor and founding member Dee Dee Ramone contributed three compositions to the album despite his departure from the band. As a producer acts for the first time since the album Too Tough to Die again ed stasium . The names Condemned To Live and Mondo Deprovados were initially used as the working title for the album .

The band's opinion of their work is unclear. In an interview in an Argentine newspaper in 1992, guitarist Johnny Ramone said :

“Generally I always find two or three songs that I hate. From Mondo Bizarro, I really like almost all the songs and I am very satisfied with the result. "

“I usually find two or three songs every time that I hate. I like practically all of Mondo Bizarro's pieces and I am very happy with the result. "

On the other hand, there is a statement by Johnny Ramones in an interview for the documentary End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones :

“I don't like it. I don't like it at all. "

"I do not like it. I do not like it at all."

The pieces of music on the album (selection)

  • Censorshit is about the "youth protection measures" implemented in the USA since 1985 by the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) , which had enforced that music albums with content that was perceived as "offensive" had to have a warning sticker addressed to parents on the front of the case. One of the founders of the committee, Tipper Gore (wife of Al Gore ), is mentioned by name several times in the lyrics ("Tipper, what's that sticker stickin 'on my CD? Is that some kind of warning to protect me?" - German: "Tipper What kind of sticker is it on my CD? Is that a kind of warning to protect me? "). The title of the piece is a play on words with "censorship", the English term for censorship; the text of the song names two other opponents of the PMRC in the chorus: Frank Zappa and Ozzy Osbourne .
  • Poison Heart , Strength to Endure, and Main Man were written by Dee Dee Ramone. He sold the band the rights to the compositions in order to be able to afford a lawyer who would help him to get out of the pre-trial detention that he had to go to on suspicion of drug possession.
  • Strength to Endure and Main Man will be sung by CJ Ramone.
  • The song Cabbies on Crack is inspired by the singer's risky taxi ride through Manhattan. On the studio recording, Vernon Reid , guitarist of the band Living Color , plays the guitar solo.
  • Heidi is a Headcase is a “continuation” of earlier compositions by the Ramones, Judy is a Punk (from the album Ramones , 1976), Suzy is a Headbanger ( Leave Home , 1977) and Sheena is a Punk Rocker ( Rocket to Russia , 1977).
  • Touring was first published on this album, but was created back in 1981. The original version can be heard on the 2002 re-release of the album Pleasant Dreams . Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan), vocalists from The Turtles , contributed choral singing to the piece .
