Flo & Eddie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flo & Eddie (founded 1970) is the name of a duo of two rock musicians , consisting of Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman - the original lead singers of the successful pop band The Turtles .

Career

The name Flo & Eddie came about after the group The Turtles broke up. The previous record company wanted to put pressure on the two lost musicians. So she not only refused them to use the name The Turtles in the future, but also claimed the rights to the Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman family names for themselves. There followed a legal battle that dragged on until 1985.

At first as Phlorescent Leech and Eddie , the two joined Frank Zappa and his Mothers of Invention . The duo's name soon changed to Flo & Eddie. With Zappa they practically cultivated what had already been suggested by the Turtles, but was still referred to as “aberration” in the rock lexicon of 1973: “parodic elements” and satirical in the music as well as ironic ridicule in the lyrics. The result of this “fruitful collaboration” (H. Kaylan) were, on the one hand, four albums. In addition to the singing qualities of the two former Turtles lead singers, Zappa especially valued their comedic talents, which can be seen in the music film 200 Motels .

After the time with Zappa, Kaylan and Volman continued to work as Flo & Eddie. At the beginning of the 1980s the duo could be seen live during a club tour in Germany and offered some music critics of the day "the craziest and most perfect pop / rock satire that has come to our ears". Kaylan and Volman produced the albums of some other bands, but mainly appeared as background singers for many well-known artists - including T. Rex , Blondie , Duran Duran , Bruce Springsteen and John Lennon .

In addition, Kaylan / Volman wrote the ( Grammy- nominated) film music for two successful American cartoon series for children, and wrote regular columns in Creem, Phonograph Record Magazine and LA Free Press. And even on the radio they made people sit up and take notice with their own shows on the stations KMET, KROQ (both Los Angeles) and K-ROCK in New York.

The Turtles revived in the early 1990s. Since then this band has performed often, giving an average of over 70 concerts a year - often with the addition of “featuring Flo & Eddie”.
