Mark Volman
Mark Volman (born April 19, 1947 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American rock musician who is best known as a singer. In the mid-1960s, he and Howard Kaylan founded the rock group The Turtles , which at that time had several top ten hits ( Happy together, Elenore and It Ain't Me, Babe ) and enjoyed world fame.
life and work
Volman spent his childhood in the city of Westchester near Los Angeles. At school he met Howard Kaylan, who was the same age. In 1965 he joined his band "The Nightriders". The night riders soon became the group "Crossfire", which in turn became aware of a well-known disc jockey who immediately took over their management. The band renamed itself again and shortly thereafter enjoyed world fame over a period of five years as The Turtles (see there).
The Turtles broke apart in 1970. Mark Volman and his brother in spirit, Howard Kaylan, nevertheless caused an international sensation for another decade, this time as the satirical pop duo Flo & Eddie (see there). Since 1970, Volman has worked with over 100 well-known rock and pop greats, sometimes as a producer, sometimes as a background singer.
Mark Volman enrolled at a university in 1992 at the age of 45 years old, and seven years later graduated as a Master of Fine Arts with a focus on scriptwriting. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Art from Loyola Marymount University. At this university and at Los Angeles Valley College, he was a teacher from 1997 to 2004 and trained his students in the fields of communication and art in matters of the “music business” and “industry”.
In 1997, Mark Volman founded Ask Professor Flo . The company offers music, consulting and production services. That same year he wrote his first book - a guide to self-help for aspiring "musicians and people who hope to survive in the music industry," as Volman explains.
Today, Mark Volman is a professor at the Curb School of Entertainment and Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville and holds seminars, workshops and courses at a number of other universities.
