The Slider is the third music album by the British glam rock band T. Rex . It was released on July 23, 1972 at the height of its success.

album

Stylistically, The Slider represents the production-technical development of the "Electric-Boogie" from the previous album Electric Warrior to metallic Glam-Rock. Despite numerous ballads and slow rock tracks, the album has an overall effect due to its compact, dynamic and clear sound and the emphasis on the drums harder than the last LP and like a piece.

In Great Britain the LP reached number 4, in Germany number 7 in the album charts and in the USA it was the greatest commercial success for the group with number 17 in the Billboard album charts.

The Slider contains the two British number 1 hits Telegram Sam and Metal Guru , the latter also number 1 in Germany . The title Baby Strange had already appeared as the B-side of the single Telegram Sam .

Cover

The black and white cover photo, which shows Marc Bolan with a leather hat on his head, was made during the filming of the concert film Born to Boogie (1972), which Ringo Starr was shooting. On the envelope, Starr is named as the author of the photo because Bolan wanted it that way. In fact, the picture was shot by producer Tony Visconti . On the front page is “T.REX” in large, red letters, the album title “THE SLIDER” in the same way on the back of the cover with a picture from the same photo shoot, fittingly Bolan this time from behind.

In Great Britain and Germany the album was released in a single cover. In the UK the texts were printed on the red inner sleeve, in Germany the text supplement was enclosed as a red extra sheet. In the USA and Canada the album was released as a gatefold cover, where the lyrics were printed on the inside.

review

Steve Huey in the All Music Guide writes in his album review: “It's nearly impossible not to get caught up in the irresistible rush of melodies […]; even if it treads largely the same ground as Electric Warrior, The Slider is flawlessly executed, and every bit the classic that its predecessor is. ”(“ It is almost impossible not to get caught up in this onslaught of melodies […]; Even if the album has broadly the same patterns as Electric Warrior, The Slider is a flawless performance and as much a classic as its predecessor. ")
