Jon Cassar (born April 27, 1958 in Malta ) is a Canadian director and producer. He is best known for the dramatic action series 24 with Kiefer Sutherland .

Life

Jon Cassar was born in Malta and grew up in the Canadian city of Ottawa , where he attended Algonquin College . In his professional career, he first worked with the film camera as a camera operator , then from 1992 as a director and later also as a producer. In 1995, he first directed four episodes of Baywatch Nights in the US . He lived in Toronto for a long time , where he worked on the dramatic agent series Nikita with producer Joel Genealogie and with Robert Cochran . He directed the pilot and thirteen other episodes with actors Peta Wilson , Roy Dupuis , Alberta Watson , Eugene Robert Glazer , Don Francks and Matthew Ferguson . He directed every first episode for all five seasons and is best known for his action scenes. In 1998 Cassar was nominated as a director in Nikita for a Gemini Award for the episode 1.14 Checkmate (Gambit) .

In 2002, he moved to Los Angeles with his wife and younger son and became the most widely used director on the Agent series 24 . In the first season of this action series, he directed two episodes. Stephen Hopkins then left the show, and nine-hired Cassar as a producer and frequent director, who directed more than a third of the episodes. In various functions, he appeared in the series 125 times in the first six seasons and created series episodes and three prequels. He was also involved in the sequel 24: Live Another Day (2014)

He also directs films for his company, Cassar Filmworks .

In 2004, Cassar was nominated for a DGA Award by the Directors Guild of America for directing one of 24 episodes . In 2007 he received this award together with others. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 he was nominated for 24 for an Emmy . At the Primetime Emmy Awards 2006 he received two awards for 24 , namely for directing 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM and for best dramatic television series. At the Monte-Carlo TV Festival in 2006 he shared with others a Golden Nymph for 24 . In the same year he was nominated with others for 24 at the PGA Golden Laurel Awards for Television Producer of the Year Award in Episodic , in 2007 as well.

As the author , Cassar wrote the English text of the photo book 24: Behind the Scenes (2006), which contains many set photos from the first five seasons of 24 . The images are from him, cameraman Rodney Charters, Isabella Vosmikova and others.

Jon Cassar co-founded the Motion Picture Industry Charitable Alliance ( MPICA ) with Nigel Bennett and John Kapelos . In the annual Lights, Camera, Auction , filmmakers auction donated props to fans. LCA 10 is said to have been the last such event. It took place from October 5-7, 2007 in Los Angeles.

Cassar, Joel Zusammenarbeit, Robert Cochran and David Ehrman are planning the series or the pilot Company Man , the working title of which was NSA Innocent , in 2007 .
