Matthew Ferguson

Matthew Ferguson (born April 3, 1973 in Toronto ( Toronto Islands ), Ontario ) is a Canadian actor .

Life and accomplishments

Matthew Ferguson was born on the Toronto Islands . He lived for some time on these islands off the city of Toronto with about 700 inhabitants. At the age of five he demonstrated in a human chain to stop a government project that wanted to relocate the population and build a park. Finally, in 1992, the residents were able to sign a lease for 99 years. Partly from this resistance movement, the Shadowland theater group emerged in 1983 , which later became the Swizzle Stick Theater of the Stilt Walkers . Ferguson is an active member and has appeared in street theater . He learned to walk on stilts and demonstrated this skill for years at the Caribana , the Toronto Carnival. Other hobbies include sports, hockey, mountaineering, and mimicking accents.

Ferguson graduated from the Claude Watson School for the Performing Arts , an acting school in Toronto. Shortly after his mother's death, his first theater role was in Geometry in Venice in 1989, at the age of 16, as Morgan Moreen . For this portrayal he was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award . He took on a leading role in the 1992 film Simons Sehnsucht ( On My Own ). In 1993 he was nominated for an AFI Award for Best Actor by the Australian Film Institute . A scene with him in The Long Kiss Goodnight ( The Long Kiss Goodnight ) (1996), in which he Geena Davis a long goodnight kiss gave and gave the film the English name was excised.

In the theater he played Lucio in Measure for Measure ( Measure For Measure ), a drama by William Shakespeare . In November 2000 he was Ian MacNeil in The Glace Bay Miners' Museum in Sudbury . The material is based on a short story by Sheldon Currie, which was also made into a film.

A medium-sized supporting role was Ferguson in love and other cruelties (1993) by director Denys Arcand and was nominated for a Genie Award for best supporting actor in 1994. He received two further nominations for this Canadian award in 1996 for Best Actor for Under Black Sun (1995) and for Lilies - Theater of Passion (1996). In the film The English Patient (1996) by director Anthony Minghella , which won nine Academy Awards , Ferguson can be seen in a small role as a wounded soldier.

Matthew Ferguson is best known as the computer genius Seymour Birkoff in the dramatic agent series Nikita (1997-2001) with Peta Wilson , Roy Dupuis , Don Francks , Eugene Robert Glazer and Alberta Watson . In 1998 he was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Supporting Actor in that television series. In the horror thriller Cube 2: Hypercube (2002) he portrayed a medium-sized supporting role and in some scenes in the drama Owning Mahowny (2003) a smaller supporting role.

Ferguson produced plays in Toronto. He is a screenwriter and actor in the film Run Bobby Run about Bobby Kennedy .
