action

David used to be with Candy. He's gay now , but they still live together. He gave up acting and is now a waiter. Candy gets involved with the lesbian Jerri and then with the bartender Robert, who also leads a turbulent love life. The young assistant waiter Kane is in love with David. The noble call girl Benita, a friend of David, plays sadomasochism games with her customers . All characters have sex adventures and are unsuccessfully looking for a partner who realizes all the ideals they are looking for, who they can love and who will love them again. Amid different variations of sex and love - regardless of the gender of the other person - murders of young girls occur. Bernie, a friend of David, leads a seemingly staid life as a civil servant until his violence against women comes to light. He turns out to be the murderer of women and jumps from a high-rise building to his death before David's eyes. David makes a fresh start and auditions for a role. He, Candy and Kane, who is being promoted to waiter, are there for each other.

Reviews

  • According to Cinema , the film is a "single comedy with a dramatic touch" , a " dark comedy about Canadian city wrecks in the AIDS-ridden nineties" , a "cynical comedy about the single boom and the associated frustration in relationships " and the "view of that The love life of the 90s is funny and cruel at the same time. "
  • Prisma said: “Denys Arcand (' Fall of the American Empire ', ' Jesus of Montreal ') staged an atmospherically dense and psychologically gripping puzzle about the fall of single culture. He brilliantly balances the dark, laconic and tragicomic facets of the story. Excellent dialogues and gripping suspense give the story the finishing touch. "
