The Ramones Museum Berlin is a museum in memory of the American punk band Ramones in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg at Oberbaumstrasse 5. The museum was opened on September 15, 2005, initially elsewhere in Kreuzberg and is the world's first and so far only Ramones -Museum. It shows more than 300 memorabilia from the Ramones from 1975–1996. Entry to the museum is only payable once and is then valid for life.

history

The museum was founded by Florian Hayler, who has amassed hundreds of items about and about the band. It was originally located in two rooms in the Kreuzberg cellar in Berlin-Kreuzberg under the shared apartment of the rock band EL * KE . In November 2007, however, the Ramones Museum had to close because the homeowner tripled the rent. On October 8, 2008, the museum reopened in Berlin-Mitte , this time with the integrated “Café Mania”. The museum was located there on the ground floor and was divided into a museum and a café / bar area. In March 2017 it moved back to Kreuzberg, this time to the Schlesisches Tor in Oberbaumstraße.

Exhibitions and exhibits

The exhibitions show, among other things, previously unpublished photos, hand-signed posters, clothing by the musicians, signed first editions of various publications and much more. The arrangement of the exhibits is chronological , so that a development of the band can be recognized.

The larger room shows the exhibits from the years 1975 to 1985 and is dedicated to the beginning of the punk era . The second room represents the period from 1985 to 1996 and is dedicated to the second phase of the Ramones' career. The most recent exhibits are pieces from the Ramones' last concert in August 1996.
