Brain Drain is the eleventh studio album by the New York punk band Ramones , which was released in March 1989 in the USA on Sire and in Great Britain on Chrysalis Records . The album was the last time founding member and bassist Dee Dee Ramone took part.

Background information

The album was recorded in late 1988. The last time the group's main songwriter, Dee Dee Ramone, was involved in the recording, although he continued to write songs for the Ramones in the years following the release of Brain Drain . It is also the first album since Subterranean Jungle in which Marky Ramone was again involved as drummer after he had temporarily left the band. The piece included on the album Pet Sematary was the still in the year of publication for the soundtrack of the film adaptation of Stephen King -Romans Sematary used, resulting in a high level of awareness of the piece and a 4th place in the charts modern rock tracks of the music magazine Billboard resulted . However, the single could not assert itself in the regular charts. However, it was nominated for a Golden Raspberry / Worst Song . In 2001 the German band Rammstein covered the piece for the B-side of their single Ich Will .

The Ramones covered the song Palisades Parks by rock 'n' roll musician Freddie Cannon for Brain Drain . A total of three singles were released from the album, in addition to Pet Sematary also the pieces I Believe In Miracles and Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight) , which, however, except for the first mentioned song, could not position themselves in the charts. The album Brain Drain peaked at number 122 on the Billboard 200 and number 75 on the UK Albums Chart .

The reviews for Brain Drain were rather bad. Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic sees the album as a creative low for the band and only awarded two stars out of five.
