The Insane Clown Posse ( ICP ) is a horror Core - rap duo from Detroit , consisting of Violent J (Joseph Bruce) and Shaggy 2 Dope (Joseph Utsler). They usually show themselves with black and white made-up clown faces . Followers of the band are called juggalos.

Band history

The group from Detroit was formed in 1986 under the name "Inner City Posse", a trio that consisted of Joseph "Joe" Bruce, Joseph "Joey" Utsler and his brother John. After the band was able to record a long time unsuccessful, claimed Joe, in a dream, a vision to have had: He is to the spirit of the "Dark Carnival" have appeared. Subsequently, Joe "Violent J", Joey "Shaggy 2 Dope" and the group called Insane Clown Posse. According to them, it is their job to send the world six messages in the form of so-called “Joker's Cards” ( concept albums ). Then the world should end. ICP founded the music label Psychopathic Records together with their manager Alex Abbiss . Before "Carnival of Carnage" (the first of the six Joker's Cards, 1992) was released, John left the group.

The next Joker's Card was "The Ringmaster" (1994) followed by "Riddle Box" (1995). In between they released several EPs , including Shaggy's first solo EP called "Fuck Off !!". The fourth card "The Great Milenko" (1997) is one of the most successful records from ICP and was awarded platinum . ICP took more and more time between the Joker's Cards, devoting themselves to other projects and taking on a new group called Twiztid , consisting of Jamie Madrox and Monoxide (formerly known as Mr. Bonez and Hectic from the band House Of Krazees) her wing. In 1999 the fifth Joker's Card was released: The "Amazing Jeckel Brothers", which was among the top 5 of the US album charts. Intermediate projects by ICP included Dark Lotus , a band consisting of ICP, Twiztid, Blaze Ya Dead Homie and, at the beginning, Marz. Marz later fell out with the Insane Clown Posse and was replaced by Anybody Killa . The first album "Tales From The Lotus Pod" was then re-released with Anybody Killa instead of March. ICP continued to release a double album called "Bizzar / Bizaar" before parting ways with longtime producer Mike E. Clark. The sixth Joker's Card was produced by Mike P. and appeared in two 2 album versions: "Shangri La" (2002) (after the paradise-like place Shangri-La ) and "Hell's Pit" (2004). At first it was unclear whether ICP's career ended with the completion of the cycle.

On the EP “The Calm EP” (2005) by ICP member Violent J, he said: “Violent J and Shaggy muthafuckin '2 Dope forever makin music for the Juggalo nation serial killas world wide world wide baby and we will never ever never ever ever stop bitch! ". In addition, ICP have since worked again with producer Mike E. Clark. In 2007 they released the album "The Tempest". In 2009 the album “Bang! Pow! Boom ”entered the Billboard charts at number 4, making it ICP's most successful album commercially.

style

The texts of the ICP are usually strongly influenced by violence. The band also often uses sarcastic and self-deprecating elements in their lyrics . Musically speaking, ICP often use rock and metal elements and mix them with rap. To achieve this, they work time and again with musicians from the rock scene, such as Slash , Alice Cooper , (hed) pe or Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols .

Feud with Eminem

The Insane Clown Posse has a long-running feud with Eminem that dates back to before Eminem's career. Back then, Eminem was throwing parties in Detroit. On a flyer he printed ICP Might Appear .. Maybe . The ICP didn't want Eminem to advertise their name. This led to various verbal and physical confrontations between the two parties. ICP recorded the Disstrack Nothing but a bitch thang . Eminem countered repeatedly. Among other things, he raps in his song "Marshall Mathers": Plus I was put here to put fear in fagots who spray Faygo Root Beer; and call themselves 'clowns' cause they look queer; Fagot2Dope and Silent Gay; Claim in Detroit, when y'all live twenty miles away (fuckin punks) .
