Toxik is a Thrash Metal / Progressive Metal band from Peekskill , New York ( United States ). The band is one of the founding members of Progressive Thrash Metal.

history

The band was founded in 1985 by guitarist Josh Christian and bassist Lee Erwin. At first the band called itself "Tokyo". Since there was already a band with this name and they wanted to avoid a lawsuit, the band name was changed to Toxik. Singer Michael Sanders and drummer Sal Dadabo completed the line-up that is known as the "Tokyo Lineup".

In 1986 there were two changes in the line-up. Lee Erwin left the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Brian Bonnini. Sal Dadabo left Toxik for the Twisted Sister . He was succeeded by Ted Leger. In the summer of 1986 the band recorded a demo , which brought the band a contract with Roadrunner Records .

The debut album "World Circus" was released in 1988 and is considered to be one of the first progressive thrash metal albums. The American College Music Journal named “World Circus” the “best new metal album of the year”. After the tour Michael Sanders left the band. He was succeeded by Charles Sabin. A year later, the second and to this day last album “Think This” was released. The band brought John Donelly into the line-up for the upcoming tour with King Diamond through North America and Europe. After a long tour, the band broke up in 1992.

In the fall of 2006, both albums were re-released by Displeased Records . A further re-release of both albums took place in the spring of 2007 by Metal Mind Productions . In February 2007 the band announced their reunion as the "World Circus" lineup. Instead of Tad Leger, Lou Caldarola sat behind the drums because Leger wanted to concentrate on his new band Lucertola. In August 2007 Brian Bonnini left the band. Since a replacement was not found in time for him, the band had to cancel a European tour planned for November 2007, including appearances at the Keep It True and Ragers Elite festivals .
