Gurd is a Swiss thrash metal band from Basel .

history

Gurd was founded in 1994 by former Poltergeist members VO Pulver and Marek Felis and former Erotic Jesus guitarist Tommy Baumgartner. The line-up was completed by the drummer Tobias Roth. After a short time, Major Records became aware of the band and provided the Confederates with a contract.

Within a year the band released two albums, which were well received. Before the tour with the welders , Tommy Baumgartner got out again because he was fed up with the music business. He was replaced by Phillippe. In the following period Gurd played extensive tours with Such a Surge , Life of Agony , Stuck Mojo and Pro-Pain . The highlight was the appearance at the Dynamo Open Air . After the bankruptcy of their record company Major Records, the band was immediately signed by Century Media . Gurd recorded their third album D-Fect under the direction of Waldemar Sorychta . A year later, the album D-Fect The Remixes followed , with which the Swiss followed the remix trend of the late nineties.

In 1998, the fourth album Down The Drain followed , which was recorded by Thomas Skogsberg in the Stockholm Sunlight Studio. Gurd went on a successful European tour with Pro-Pain . Due to the usual musical differences, Marek Felis, Tobias Roth and Phillippe decided to leave the band - they later founded the band disgroove . The gaps were quickly filled again. The guitarist Spring and the bassist Andrej were previously active with the Swamp Terrorists, while the new drummer Tschibu previously played with Jerk. To get used to it, Gurd went on a club tour through Switzerland. In August 2000 the album Bedlam was released , the Swiss hardest work to date. After a successful tour, Century Media announced that it would not renew the contract. At the end of 2001 Andrej left the band for health reasons.

The new bass player was Franky Winkelmann, who previously worked as a sound engineer for the band. With Diehard Music a new record company was found. In 2003 the album Encounter , produced in Gurd's own recording studio founded by VO and Franky, was released , which was a bit more traditional. A year later Gurd celebrated their tenth anniversary with an anniversary concert, which was released in 2005 as a CD / DVD package. At the end of 2004 guitarist Spring left the band and was replaced by Pat. In early 2006, Gurd were signed by Dockyard 1 . The album Bang! . In the spring of 2007, Gurd went on a European tour with her old friends from Pro-Pain .

On January 16, 2009, the band released the album Your Drug of Choice for their 15th anniversary . The album Never Fail followed in 2011 . It is the first Gurd release on vinyl and was also released as an LP in a limited edition of 150 copies. Each LP is hand-labeled and signed by the band.

On November 21st, 2014 Gurd released the album Fake for their 20th anniversary .
