Zimmer Hole is a comedy metal band from Vancouver , Canada , founded in 1991. The band includes Chris "The Heathen" Valagao, Jed Simon ( Strapping Young Lad ), Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory ) and Gene Hoglan ( Dethklok , Strapping Young Lad, formerly with Death , Dark Angel , Testament and others).

Band name

The band gave themselves the unusual name before their first appearance as the opening act for the musician Dean Zimmer, who, according to Valagao, was a local celebrity because he had publicly exposed his bottom. Thus the spelling "Zimmer's Hole" would actually be grammatically correct. However, only the spelling "Zimmer Hole" can be found on the albums and the official website. Often the name is also abbreviated as "The Hole".

Band history

The band Zimmer Hole was founded in 1991 by Jed Simon and Byron Stroud and has existed longer than the band Strapping Young Lad, which has since been much more successful. Long-time drummer Steve Wheeler was replaced by Gene Hoglan in 2007 .

style

Despite the close personal proximity to Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend (who produced all the albums), Zimmer's Hole is stylistically different.

Although it is mainly Thrash Metal, stylistic devices of "classic" Heavy Metal are often used. Humorous, especially parodic elements run through all publications. Above all, well-known and successful bands such as Metallica or Manowar are satirized.

Singer "The Heathen" is particularly known for his exalted stage show and mostly appears in devil costume. The occasional references to Satan are mostly used in a highly ironic way.
