Band history (cartoon series)

The series Metalocalypse was designed by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha in 2006 and is broadcast on the US broadcaster Cartoon Network as part of the Adult Swim series collection, always on Saturday night. It deals with the fictional adventures of a successful Scandinavian-American band that has enormous power over their fans and is persecuted by a sect called The Tribunal . The fictional musicians are modeled on secular musicians and represent archetypes . Singer Nathan Explosion is based on George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of Cannibal Corpse , but is also somewhat similar to Glenn Danzig and Conan . Guitarist Skwisgaar Skwigelf is based on Yngwie Malmsteen . The drummer Pickles is based on the musical style of Roger Meddows Taylor and the real musician Devin Townsend .

Four seasons of the series have been filmed so far and have been broadcast very successfully in the United States. The series has also been running in Germany for the first time since June 29, 2010. Metalocalypse is broadcast in the Adult Swim program block on the TNT series in two-channel sound. The German guest dubbing voices include Doro Pesch , Alf Ator from Knorkator , Marcel “Schmier” Schirmer from Destruction and Miland “Mille” Petrozza from Kreator .

The German version was produced by TV + Synchron Berlin .

In 2007 the album The Dethalbum was released, which, like the music in the series, was composed and recorded by Brendon Small. He was supported by drummer Gene Hoglan and violinist Emilie Autumn as well as Tommy Blacha, the co-creator of the series. The album reached number 21 on the US Billboard charts.

Songs from the band were used in the soundtrack to Saw III and in the game Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock .

In 2008 a tour in the style of the fictional band Gorillaz took place. For this purpose, guitarist Mike Keneally and bassist Bryan Beller were recruited alongside Gene Hoglan . The tour took the band to various colleges . As support played ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead . Most of the shows were sold out. For most of their shows, the band did not charge entry.

The band's second album, The Dethalbum II , was released on September 9, 2009 via Williams Street Records . There was a standard version, a deluxe version with an additional DVD and a download version. The DVD of the deluxe version shows a 52-minute documentary about the 2008 Dethklok tour.
