The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (also IIT Kharagpur or IITKGP ) is a technical university in Kharagpur in the Indian state of West Bengal . Founded in 1951, it is the oldest of the Indian Institutes of Technology and one of the most important technical colleges in India. In the academic rankings of Indian universities, the IIT Kharagpur ranks at the top. Around 2,700 students are currently studying here.
