Ebrahim Alkazi

Ebrahim Alkazi ( Hindi : इब्राहीम अलकाजी ; born October 18, 1925 in Pune ; † August 4, 2020 in New Delhi ) was an Indian theater director , gallery owner and art collector .

Life

Alkazi was born in India to a wealthy Saudi businessman and a mother from Kuwait . He has 8 siblings. Alkazi attended St. Vincent's Catholic High School in Pune , the Jesuit- run St. Xavier's College in Mumbai and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. From 1962 to 1977 he was director of the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi . Numerous stars of Indian cinema and theater were trained under him.

He has directed over 50 theater productions, including Greek tragedies, numerous plays by Shakespeare and dramas by Ibsen , Strindberg and Chekhov . In Delhi he promoted young Indian authors who wrote their plays in Hindi . --- during his since at iAlkazi was married to Roshan Alkazi (1920–2007), who designed all costumes for his productions. The couple had two children, Amal Allana (* 1947), theater director and former head of the National School of Drama, and Feisal Alkazi, also theater director.
