Ela Gandhi
Ela Gandhi (born July 1, 1940 in the Phoenix settlement near Durban , South Africa ) is a peace activist and was a member of the National Assembly in South Africa from 1994 to 2004 . She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).
Life
Ela Gandhi was born in South Africa as the daughter of Manilal Gandhi and grew up in an ashram in the Phoenix settlement near Durban. She is a granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi . In 2007 she was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Indian government .
