background

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, with its Romeo and Juliet theme, was the comeback of the producer and writer and possibly also the director Nasir Hussain . The film became India's biggest box office hit of 1988 and revived the Hindi film genre of cheeky teenage romance. It quickly achieved cult status and was affectionately known as "QSQT" by teenagers. Leading actor Aamir Khan became a star practically overnight and starred in other films of this type such as Dil (1990).

The producer Nasir Hussain is the uncle of Aamir Khan and the father of Mansoor Khan . Imran Khan , who plays little Raj, is Aamir's nephew. With his debut in You love me, you don't love me ( Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na ), he has his first hit as a leading actor.

Awards

Filmfare Award 1989

National Film Award (1989)

criticism

The film presents the act of falling in love as probably the only culturally accepted form of rebellion and is strongly neo-traditional. Aamir Khan's play is reminiscent of classic Indian film heroes in the teenage dilemma with Hussain, such as Shammi Kapoor or Dev Anand , who have to choose between the ideas of the revered father and the call of love - musically presented in the hit song Papa Kehte Hain .
