Alpine is a census-designated place in the North Slope Borough in the state of Alaska in the United States . In the census of 2000, Alpine had no inhabitants, while in the 2010 census was not recorded.

Alpine is located on the Colville River Delta about 35 miles (about 56 km) from the coast of the Beaufort Sea and 8 miles (about 13 km) north of Nuiqsut . The area is near the border with the National Petroleum Reserve . There is an arctic climate with temperatures below freezing on 297 days of the year.

History and economy

Alpine is an oil production area . The oil production and the associated work camp are operated by the companies ConocoPhillips and Anadarko Petroleum . Petroleum was discovered in the area in 1996. The oil field produces 100,000 barrels of oil every day . It is estimated that the oil field will produce a total of 429 million barrels of oil in its lifetime. The local residents of the nearby town of Nuiqsut are being trained for oil production in Alpine.

traffic

An eight mile long road connects Alpine with Nuiqsut. Air traffic alone ensures that the area can be reached all year round. A runway operated by the North Slope Borough is available in Nuiqsut. Alpine private airfield is operated by ConocoPhillips. Aircraft with ski runners are used for local transport.
