National Wild and Scenic River

The Salmon River is an approximately 110 km long right tributary of the Kobuk River in the Northwest Arctic Borough in northwest Alaska .

It is one of eight rivers with that name in the US state. The Salmon River rises on the southern flank of Kanaktok Mountain in the Baird Mountains , a mountain range of the Brooks Range , and flows southward to the confluence with the Kobuk River.

Located within Kobuk Valley National Park, the salmon was designated a National Wild and Scenic River under the administration of the National Park Service in 1980 by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act .
