The Baird Mountains are a mountain range of the Brooks Range northeast of Kotzebue Sound in western Alaska . They extend for almost 200 km in an east-west direction between the Noatak and Kobuk Rivers . In the east they border the Schwatka Mountains at Amakomanak Creek and Redstone River . In the north of the mountain range are parts of the Noatak National Preserves , in the east parts of the Kobuk Valley National Park .
The highest peak of the mountain is the Mount Angayukaqsraq with 1433 m .
The mountain range was named in 1886 by Lieutenant GM Stoney of the United States Army after Spencer Fullerton Baird , an American ornithologist and ichthyologist .
