The Redstone River is a right tributary of the Ambler River in the Brooks Range in Alaska .
It rises on the southern flank of the mountains near the border of the Noatak National Preserves . It flows south and flows into the Ambler River at Ambler . The Redstone River belongs to the river system of the Kobuk River , which flows over the Kotzebue Sound to the Chukchi Sea , a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean . The river and Amakomanak Creek form the border between the Baird Mountains and Schwatka Mountains .
The Redstone River was named in 1885 by Lieutenant Stoney of the United States Navy, probably based on the translation of the name of the native Alaskans for the river, "E-vel-she-ark" or "Evesheark". These names were also documented in 1956 in the spelling "Ivishak". They denote an iron oxide that was used to make red paint.
