Georg Holzmann (born March 5, 1961 in Pfronten , Bavaria ) is a former German ice hockey player and coach. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany .

Career

In the offspring of EV Füssen he became a junior national player and made the leap into the senior team at the age of 17. In his first Bundesliga season 1978/79 he scored 10 goals, but also 90 penalty minutes. With his robust style of play, he quickly gained respect in the league. After 18 goals in his third and 19 goals in his fourth Bundesliga season, he had already scored 13 goals for the financially troubled Allgäu in the 1982/83 season at the beginning of December when he was transferred to the Düsseldorfer EG . There he played the season to the end and exceeded the 20-goal mark for the first time with another 8 goals. He stayed one more season at the Brehmstraße before the 1984/85 season for Schwenninger ERC changed. Here he became a national player and represented the German national ice hockey team at the Ice Hockey World Championship in Moscow in 1986 . He then moved to the Mannheim ERC , where he was a key player for two years. In addition to the ice hockey world championships in 1987 and 1988 , he also took part in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary during this period. In the preliminary round win against Norway, he scored a goal. From the 1988/89 season he played for the BSC Preussen in Berlin. He played for nine years in Berlin, where the team was renamed Prussia Devils and then Capitals after the DEL was founded. In addition to some World Cup participations he was also in the squad of the German team at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , for which he was able to enter the goalscorer list in the final round against Sweden and in the placement game against France. Holzmann ended his career after the 1996/1997 season. In total, he played 849 first division games in which he scored 724 points scorer. There are also 13 scorer points at world championships.

Holzmann was feared by his opponents during his career as a tough player. His way of playing earned him the nickname "Eisenschorsch" .

Like many other ice hockey players, Georg Holzmann was an active inline hockey player .

Coaching career

As a coach he acted in the second national ice hockey league for EC Bad Tölz and EC Heilbronn from 2001 to 2003. In the 2004/05 season he coached the SC Riessersee team in the ice hockey league . Two years later he celebrated his greatest success as a coach with EV Ravensburg . His team was promoted to the second national ice hockey league. From 1998 to 2001 Holzmann was also a coach at EV Füssen, which he led back from the regional league to the top league. Georg Holzmann is currently also the national coach at the DEB and trains the German national inline hockey team . In 2007 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Landshut . In 2018 he also coached the DEL Allstars in an international comparison of all top European loungers.

family

His son Max Holzmann (* 1984) has been the sporting director of the family's hometown club, EV Füssen, since 2016. His youngest son Veit (* 1992) is also an ice hockey player.
