Mathias Lange (born April 13, 1985 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian - German ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German ice hockey league .

Career

Mathias Lange began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth of the EC KAC , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Austrian ice hockey league in the 2001/02 season , when he sat on the bench in three games and stood between the posts once . Then the goalkeeper moved to the Billings Bulls, for which he was active in the junior league America West Hockey League for the following two years . The left catcher then played for a season for New York Apple Core from the Eastern Junior Hockey League. From 2005 to 2009 the Austrian ran for the team of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , before he received a contract with the DEG Metro Stars from the German Ice Hockey League for the 2009/10 season .

Due to the protracted injury to goalkeeper Christian Rohde , Lange received a trial contract for four games with the Ravensburg Towerstars from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga in January 2011 . Due to his convincing performance, his contract was extended to the end of the season after just three games. For the 2011/12 season he received no new contract in Ravensburg due to budget cuts and was without a club until mid-November. On November 14, 2011, he signed a trial contract with SERC Wild Wings until the end of December. On December 14th it was announced that Lange would stay with the Wild Wings until the end of the season.

International

For Austria , Lange took part in the U18 Junior B World Championships in 2001 , 2002 and 2003 , as well as the U20 Junior B World Championship in 2003 . Furthermore, he was in Austria's squad at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2004 , where he and his team were relegated as a promoted team.

At the 2013 World Cup , he was part of the national team in the senior division for the first time, but did not appear behind René Swette and Bernhard Starkbaum . He made his first appearance on November 7, 2013 against France as part of the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge . After being nominated for the provisional squad for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi only on call, Lange ultimately belonged to Austria's Olympic squad, which he himself described as the highlight of his career. While he was the third goalkeeper in the stands in the first game, Lange was substitute goalkeeper behind Bernhard Starkbaum in the second game. When the score was 0: 6 against the eventual Olympic champion Canada , Lange was substituted on for the last third and was able to save all 15 shots. In the last game of the group stage, he played from the start and led his team to a 3-1 win against Norway. Due to his good performances, Lange also played the next game, the fourth-final qualification against Slovenia. Austria lost 4-0 there and was eliminated from the tournament.
