Jiří Ehrenberger (born March 31, 1955 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ) is an ice hockey coach who was the head coach of the Ravensburg Towerstars until the beginning of February 2019 .

Career

He began his coaching career in Germany as a junior coach at Deggendorfer EC (1982–1985). The ice hockey certified trainer came to the German Ice Hockey Federation (1987-1993) via the stations of SC Vinschgau and the Mannheim ERC , where he looked after various youth teams. He then moved back to Deggendorf (1993–1996) as the senior coach. This was followed by a year as a junior coach in Nuremberg. From 1997 to 2002 Ehrenberger was behind the gang as the trainer of the Eisbären Regensburg . After a year as an assistant coach at the DEL club Nuremberg Ice Tigers ( 2002/2003 ), two seasons followed at the second division ETC Crimmitschau (2003-2005). For the 2005/06 season he switched to the Krefeld Penguins in the Lower Rhine region and became assistant coach alongside Teal Fowler . When he moved to Adler Mannheim for the 2006/07 season , Ehrenberger took over the position of team coach for the penguins. In his first season he was named coach of the year directly by “ Ice Hockey News ”. For the 2008/09 season Ehrenberger took over the position of sporting director for the Krefeld Penguins. On November 21, 2009, Ehrenberger was dismissed as athletic director in Krefeld. The main reason given for this was the public pressure from the press and fans after the persistent sporting failures.

On June 1, 2011, Ehrenberger took over the post of sporting director and trainer at the Landshut Cannibals . Due to the success of the season up to then, the Cannibals extended the Czech-born's contract for two more seasons until 2014. At the beginning of 2014, Ehrenberger left the EVL and then became sports director at ERC Ingolstadt in the DEL . During his tenure, which ended in March 2017, Ingolstadt won the German championship in 2014 and was runner-up in 2015.

For the 2017/18 season, Ehrenberger took over the position of head coach for the Ravensburg Towerstars from DEL2 . Standing in third place in the DEL2 table, Ehrenberger was dismissed in Ravensburg at the beginning of February 2019 after the team had only scored 27 points in the previous 20 games under his leadership.
