Robert "Robbie" Czarnik (born January 25, 1990 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been active again for the Ravensburg Towerstars in the DEL2 since 2020 . His cousin Austin Czarnik is also a hockey player.

Career

USA Hockey and OHL

As a junior, Czarnik was selected for the National Ice Hockey Program (NTDP) of the US Ice Hockey Federation and played with this team in the United States Hockey League . As a member of this junior team, he was also nominated for his home country at the U18 ice hockey world championship in 2008 . At this World Cup, the USA team finished third and Czarnik was one of the most successful players on his team with eight points. He scored one goal in the 4-1 win against Germany in the quarter-finals and two goals in the game for third place in the 6-3 win against Sweden . In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the 3rd round and joined the University of Michigan ice hockey team , the Michigan Wolverines, for the coming season . In the course of the following season 2009/10 Czarnik moved to the Ontario Hockey League for the team of the Plymouth Whalers , in which he played together with Tyler Seguin . Also in the 2010/11 season was active for the Whalers, one of then three US teams in the 20-team Canadian top junior league OHL, and together with Stefan Noesen was the best player in his team.

AHL and ECHL

After his junior years, he was able to sign an NHL entry contract with the Los Angeles Kings. Almost the entire contract term Czarnik was used with the Manchester Monarchs , the then team of the Kings organization, in the American Hockey League (AHL) . At the end of the 2013/14 season he was given to the Montreal Canadiens , for whose AHL team at the time, Hamilton Bulldogs, he ran six times.

The following 3 seasons Czarnik played mostly for teams from the ECHL , but was also partially loaned to AHL teams. Most successful he was for Reading Royals . In the ECHL team from Pennsylvania , he scored the most goals with 23 goals in the 2015/16 season and was their player with the highest points in the following season 2016/17 .

Change to Germany in the DEL2

Before the 2017/18 season , Czarnik moved abroad for the first time and joined the ice pirates Crimmitschau from the DEL2 . With 37 goals in the main round, he was the most successful goalscorer in the entire league this season. The Eispiraten reached the play-off quarter- finals , in which they were defeated by the main round winner SC Riessersee after seven games . Nevertheless, he did not receive a new contract offer from Crimmitschau , which the then coach Kim Collins justified with the way of life of the goalscorer. In the following season 2018/19 Czarnik played for the Ravensburg Towerstars , who are also active in Germany's second-highest ice hockey league. With Ravensburg he won the DEL2 championship, was one of the most successful goal scorers of his team in the main round with 21 goals and also scored in the decisive play-off final against the Löwen Frankfurt . For the season 2019/20 , he moved along with Mathieu Pompei for Liga rivals EV Landshut . After just one season in Landshut with 62 scorer points in 48 games, Czarnik returned to Ravensburg.
