history

ESV Trier (1984 to 1990)

The ESV Trier was founded as the first ice hockey club in 1984, and that in the following years in the Middle Regional League . In 1987 the club reached the qualifying round for the Oberliga Mitte for the first time , but failed there at the ERSC Karben and the VERC Lauterbach . In 1989 , the team only finished last in qualifying for the Oberliga Nord. After another year in the regional league, ESV had to withdraw from the game in the summer of 1990 due to financial difficulties.

EHC Trier (1990 to 1998)

As a successor, the EHC Trier was founded, which was promoted to the regional league middle in the 1990/91 season as champion of the Rhineland-Palatinate / Saar regional league . In 1993 the team won the Rhineland-Palatinate / Saar Cup and won the Rhineland-Palatinate championship. In the following year , the EHC qualified for the third-highest division in the qualifying round for the Oberliga Nord . The patron and businessman Günther Thiel, who supported the club financially, played a major role in the success of the club . Thanks to his good business relationships in Eastern Europe, players from Russia or the former Czechoslovakia have been signed for the club again and again .

With the introduction of the German Ice Hockey League in the summer of 1994, the EHC Trier was divided into the second-class 1st League North and secured relegation in the first season with tenth place. In 1995 the team again won the Rhineland-Palatinate championship, but was only able to avert relegation from the first division in the following game year 1995/96 in the relegation round. The highlight in the club's history of the EHC was finally reaching the play-off round of 16 for the German amateur championship in the 1996/97 season against the Bavarian representative EC Bad Tölz , which was lost in five games. The play-off round was preceded by a sixth place in the main league round. On March 18, 1998, two weeks before the end of the 1997/98 season, EHC Trier ended prematurely due to excessive debts and the resulting bankruptcy.

ESC Trier (1994 to 2006)

The ESC Trier was founded in 1994 alongside the EHC Trier and initially played in the Rhineland-Palatinate state league. With the bankruptcy of the EHC in March 1998, some players of the disbanded team switched to the "Huskies" for the 1998/99 season, which finally made it into the Regionalliga Hessen / Rhineland-Palatinate in 1999 . There the ESC Trier was one of the strongest teams and also played against the former upper division SC Mittelrhein-Neuwied .

For the 2001/02 season, the ESC Trier moved as a visiting club to the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia, where it was divided into the lower-class, but higher-quality state league of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the first season, the team finished in 3rd place, the following season ended in fifth. In the 2003/04 season, the ESC Trier rose to the Association League NRW, which was introduced in the meantime as the fifth division. In the preliminary round, the "Huskies" took 4th place, which entitles them to participate in the relegation round to the Regionalliga NRW, the so-called Regionalligapokal NRW. In this round, however, the ESC Trier only finished eighth and last.

From the 2004/05 season onwards, the ESC Trier strengthened its personnel and then took first place in the Association League NRW. In the relegation round that followed, 1st place was also taken, with which the ESC, as the regional league cup winner, secured the athletic qualification for the fourth-class regional league NRW. In the 2005/06 season , the first year in the regional league, the ESC Trier took 10th place in the main round. In the relegation round, 3rd place and thus the athletic qualification was achieved.

In the 2006/07 season the ESC Trier took 8th place in the main round and secured the class again with a third place in the relegation. In the 2007/08 season , the ESC Trier announced its team from the regional league after the city announced on November 26, 2007 that the ice rink was closed for security reasons. After the hall reopened in December 2007, the attempt to continue playing with the team in the Regionalliga Cup failed. In the 2008/09 season, the ESC Trier and the senior team did not take part in the game for financial reasons.

The amateur club ESC Plätt Devils Trier was founded in September 2005 . From 2006 he played for four seasons in the Rhineland-Palatinate League (also Landesliga RLP or Regionalliga RLP). Starting in 2007, the Plätt Devils, in cooperation with ESV Bitburg, created a women's team called Iceangels, which first played in the Landesliga Hessen, then from 2008 two seasons in the Landesliga NRW.

In the 2009/10 season there was a derby between the two Trier clubs in the so-called Regionalliga Rheinland-Pfalz . The ESC finished the season in third place, the Plätt Devils in seventh of eight teams. Before the season, however, the Trier ice rink was finally closed, so that both clubs had to complete their playing time in Bitburg.

After the ice rink has closed

After the Trier ice rink was closed, the only thing left for the Trier ice hockey players to do was to go to the ice rink in Bitburg, about 30 kilometers away . Some of the players joined the ESV Bitburg . Its successor, founded in 2014 - the Bitburger ESV - sees itself as the Eifel-Mosel Bären as a representative of Bitburg and Trier. In the 2018/19 season, the Eifel-Mosel Bears play in the Hessen League.

The ESC Plätt Devils Trier renamed itself in early 2011 in Ice Hockey Sport Club (ESC) Trier. Apart from two seasons in the Rhineland-Palatinate regional league (2011 to 2013), only friendly matches are played in Bitburg.
