The Körnebach is a brook belonging to the Lippeverband , which forms in Alt-Scharnhorst from two small ditches. It flows through the wastewater treatment plant in Scharnhorst and thus receives a relatively large flow, as the wastewater treatment plant treats two wastewater flows and directs the treated water into the Körnebach.
The Körnebach flows into the Seseke at Kamen and is 12.9 kilometers long. The stream has a total of three tributaries, all of which have renatured sewers.
In 1926 the Körnebach was expanded for open sewage disposal . Until 1996, the Körnebach was purely a waste water course, as the Scharnhorst sewage treatment plant was not yet in operation. The untreated water was eventually led into the Seseke, which flows into the Lippe in Lünen .
In 1998 the Körnebach was cleaned as part of the Seseke project and restored to its natural state. This took place in five stages. Since the beginning of 2006, the Körnebach has been a pure water course, which improves the development of the flora and fauna in the vicinity of the creek.
