history

EC Ulm / Neu-Ulm (until 1997)

In the 1984/85 and 1991/92 seasons , the EC Ulm / Neu-Ulm eV took part in the relegation games to the Regionalliga Süd / West, although the promotion to the RL could not yet be realized. For the 92/93 season they were promoted to the Regionalliga Süd, where they managed to stay up. When the leagues were redistributed in the summer of 1994, the team of the ECU was classified in the third-class 2nd League South , a season which they finished as runner-up.

ECU and EHCU (1997-2000)

From the 1997/98 season, in addition to the ECU , whose first team played under the nickname Ulmer Panther , the women's ice hockey club EHC Ulm / Neu-Ulm , whose team was nicknamed Powerflames , began playing. The EHC was founded on March 1st, 1997 as a pure women's ice hockey club, making it the second oldest ice hockey club in the Ulm / Neu-Ulm region and the only ice hockey club with a women's team. Until 2005, the Powerflames played in the Bavarian women's state league.

In the 1997/98 season , the senior team of the ECU was again unable to qualify for the single-track 2nd division, which was reintroduced for the 1998/99 season , and remained in the - now third-class - 1st League South (in the meantime they were nicknamed Ulmer Piranhas ), which got the old name Oberliga Süd again for the 1999/00 season .

In the summer of 2000, after financial problems and unpaid payments from a sponsor , the board of the ECU had to file for bankruptcy and thus stop the game.

ECU 2000, EC Atlantis, EHCU (2000-2003)

With the active participation of one of the sponsors of the ECU , the EC Atlantis Ulm / Neu-Ulm was founded with its headquarters in Ulm and took part in the senior games of the Baden-Württemberg Ice Sports Association . In addition, the ECU Eissportclub Ulm / Neu-Ulm 2000 eV was founded with the original club headquarters in Senden an der Iller for young players and took part in the Bavarian Ice Sports Association . In addition to these two clubs, the EHC team also took part in the game.

In the 2001/02 season, the team of the ECA was able to prevail in the last played promotion round to the Regionalliga Süd against the teams of EA Schongau , ERC Sonthofen 1999 and ESC Saaleteufel Halle and rise athletically. With the abolition of the fourth-class regional league south for the 2002/03 season, the team moved up to the third-class Oberliga Süd . In this 2002/03 season, the team of the EHC did not participate in the game. In the summer of 2003, the board of the ECA first waived the license for the Oberliga Süd 2003/04 in order to be able to solve the club's financial problems during a break while avoiding bankruptcy. Shortly afterwards, the board of directors filed for bankruptcy.

ECU 2000 and EHCU (2003-2008)

The ECU2000 responsible for the youth games had already decided in spring 2003 to register an independent amateur team for the game and continued the senior game in the 2003/04 season in the sixth class Bavarian district league. The EHC also took part in the game again with its women's team. After the team of the ECU2000 failed at the TSV Kottern in an attempt to immediately move up to the fifth-class Bavarian state league , they were able to take the vacant place in the league due to the discontinuation of play at EA Kempten . After the team was able to qualify for the playoffs for the state league championship in the 2003/04 season, they failed at the ECDC Memmingen in the semifinals and at the Wanderers Germering in the game for 3rd place and stayed 4th in the Bavarian regional league. In the 2005/06 season, the ECU2000 team was once again able to reach the playoffs for the national league championship, where they defeated the ERV Schweinfurt team in the semifinals , and thus rose to the fourth-class Bavarian ice hockey league in 2006/07 , in which they played two seasons participated. In the final against fellow promoted EHF Passau Black Hawks, the team lost and was runner-up in the national league in 2005/06.

For the 2006/07 season, the women's team of the EHCU was no longer reported to play.

In the 2007/08 season, an application to open insolvency proceedings for the ECU 2000 was made on December 18, 2007 and the senior team of the "Riverhawks" was canceled from the Bavarian Ice Hockey League on December 20, 2007. The offspring of the ECU2000 played the season to the end.

VfE (from 2008)

VfE Ulm / Neu-Ulm was founded in 2008 to give the offspring of the ECU2000 the opportunity to continue playing . At the time of the registration deadline for the 2008/09 season at the Bavarian Ice Sports Association, the intended goal of registering a senior team for VfE could not be achieved, so that the youngsters - in continuation of the cooperation with ESV Burgau 2000 - started playing. In the 2009/10 season, the VfE reported a senior team for the sixth-class Bavarian district league. In 2015, after five rather weak seasons with just one defeat in the season, the VFE managed to win the Bavarian regional league championship and thus promotion to the Bavarian regional league . VfE won the BEV Cup in 2017 and 2018 .
