history
ESV Hügelsheim
The history of ice hockey in Hügelsheim began with the construction of the ice rink on the site of what was then the Canadian military airfield CFB Baden-Soellingen, today's Baden-Airpark , by the Canadian armed forces stationed there in 1956. They built an ice rink with the one common in Canada small ice surface that still exists today and is operated by the ESC. The Canadian team played under the name Baden Raiders and Canadians Baden-Söllingen .
In 1984/85 the ESV Hügelsheim (Eissportverein Hügelsheim) still played in the sixth class state league. In 1986 the ESV appeared for the first time in the higher-class league ice hockey with its promotion to the Regionalliga Süd-West . The club played in this league until this regional group was dissolved in 1992 , after which it returned to the leagues of the Baden-Württemberg Ice Sports Association . After the new division into leagues with the introduction of the German Ice Hockey League in the summer of 1994, ESV only played in the Regionalliga Süd-West, where in 1998 it took part in the promotion round to the 2nd League South as a champion. From 1999 the ESV took part in the Baden-Württemberg League .
In the 2003/04 season, the ESV Hügelsheim as champions of the Baden-Württemberg League was promoted to the league . As part of the licensing procedure for the 2005/06 season, the ESV initially wanted to forego the league license for financial reasons that were also related to the stadium operation. Then the ESV reported the 2005/06 season, but the first team's game operations were to be outsourced to an ESV Hügelsheim Spielbetriebs GmbH . As part of the subsequent licensing procedure for the GmbH, the Oberliga license was finally waived - sometimes for financial reasons - and the Hornets continued to play in the Baden-Württemberg League in 2005/06. In addition to the Hornets, a second senior team took part in the fifth-class Baden-Württemberg regional league and the women's team in the second-class ice hockey Baden-Württemberg league in 2005/06 . In summer 2006 the ESV took part with a team in the German Inline Hockey League organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation .
In May 2008, the ESV Hügelsheim, whose first team had missed the athletic qualification as third in the promotion round to the league in the 2007/08 season, was made an offer by the ice hockey game operating company to move up to the league 2008/09 . The necessary documents for the league license were submitted in June 2008 by the club. However, since the necessary clearance from the Baden-Württemberg Ice Sports Association was still pending for the Oberliga at the time the documents were submitted, the club planned two-pronged plans and at the same time submitted the report for the Baden-Württemberg League. On June 30, 2009, ESV Hügelsheim filed for insolvency. However, this was rejected by the Baden-Baden District Court in October 2009 because there was insufficient mass.
ESC Hügelsheim
After the bankruptcy of ESV Hügelsheim, the successor club ESC Hügelsheim (Eis-Sport-Club Hügelsheim 09 e.V.) was founded.
The men's team of ESC Hügelsheim started under the name Baden Rhinos in 2010/11 in the Baden-Württemberg regional league and was promoted to the South-West regional league in the first year . The women's team starts in the women's league Baden-Württemberg. In addition, the club maintains various youth teams, the younger generation as a syndicate with the ERC Waldbronn , the older as a syndicate with the EHC Freiburg .
Venue
The venue of the ESC Hügelsheim is the Baden-Airpark-Eisarena . It has a capacity of 1,200 standing places and meanwhile also approx. 60 seats with a VIP area for sponsors and patrons of the association. The ice rink also has four curling lanes . ESV Hügelsheim was the owner and operator of the Baden-Airpark-Eisarena. After the bankruptcy, the ice arena became the property of the state of Baden-Württemberg . The successor club ESC Hügelsheim is the new operator of the ice rink; the reopening took place on October 10, 2010.
