The Walter Maack ice rink is an ice rink in Adendorf , Lower Saxony , and is the home venue of the regional ice hockey league team Adendorfer EC .

location

The stadium is part of the Adendorfer Sports Center on Scharnebecker Weg and, besides the Harsefeld ice rink, is the only one in the Lüneburg administrative district of the state of Lower Saxony .

history

In 1974 the Adendorfer City Council, under the leadership of Mayor Walter Maack and Councilor Benno Wierczyk, decided to build the Adendorf ice rink. On November 13, 1976, the open ice rink was inaugurated, which initially only consisted of an ice surface with perimeter borders. From 1984 the stadium was expanded in two steps. First the grandstands and ice rink were roofed, followed by a second construction phase in 1986, in which the stadium was closed at the sides and changing rooms and sanitary facilities were added.

In March 2001 the "Eisstadion Adendorf" was given its current name "Walter-Maack-Eisstadion", named after the former mayor and honorary citizen of Adendorf, Walter Maack, who had recently passed away and who had campaigned for the construction of the hall around 25 years earlier.

use

The hall is open to public ice skating, and other events such as ice discos are also offered. The regional ice hockey league team Adendorfer EC and its youth teams play their home games in the Walter Maack ice rink.
