The EC Bad Tölz is a German ice hockey club from Bad Tölz , whose first team, the Tölzer Löwen, has played in DEL2 since the 2017/18 season . The club, which became German champions twice in the 1960s, also has a department for figure skating .

History of the ice hockey department

The EC Bad Tölz was founded in 1928 and rose in 1950 to the then top division, the Oberliga Süd. In the summer of 1958 the club was one of the founding clubs of the ice hockey Bundesliga and belonged to it until the 1975/76 season . In 1962 and 1966 , the EC Bad Tölz reached the German championship .

After relegation, the ice hockey team played except in the seasons 1992/93 and 1993/94 always in the second highest league , but the team rose after the 2005/06 season in the league. For the 2002/03 season the license of the Tölzer Löwen was officially outsourced to Tölzer Eissport GmbH with the outsourcing of league game operations to the ice hockey game operating company. In the 2007/08 season, he was promoted to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga. Although the team reached second place in the table in the following season, insolvency proceedings for the GmbH were filed with the Wolfratshausen District Court under file number 2 IN 70/09 on February 23, 2009 (for the second time after 2003) and opened on April 1, 2009. The Tölzer Löwen were automatically relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga. The insolvency administrator was attorney and specialist lawyer for insolvency law Josef Hingerl from Wolfratshausen, who restructured the Tölzer Löwen within three months in the 2002/2003 season. In the 2010/11 season , the club completed the preliminary round of the Oberliga Süd in 1st place, but failed in the semi-finals of the play-offs just at EHC Klostersee. After a 2nd place in the preliminary round, the team reached the final of the play-offs in the 2011/12 season and secured the championship title against the Füchse Duisburg. The team could not meet the requirements for the 2nd league (one million euros budget), so the Fischtown Pinguins were allowed to remain in the league as the last-placed team in the relegation round of the 2nd league.

Even if EC Bad Tölz has not played in the top ice hockey league since 1976, it still has a very good youth department. The youth play in the German Junior League (DNL) and the juniors until 2007/08 and the students in the respective Bundesliga. In addition, several young players play in the young talent teams of the German Ice Hockey Federation .
