Andreas Niederberger (born April 20, 1963 in Munich ) is a former German ice hockey player . He is a member of the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame . His sons Mathias and Leon are also ice hockey players.

Career

He started his career in 1980 at EC Bad Tölz in the 2nd Bundesliga . In 1983 he moved to the Bundesliga for the Mannheim ERC . At the end of his first season in the top German division, he was voted Newcomer of the Year .

In 1985 he moved to SB Rosenheim , from where he moved to Düsseldorf during the 1985/86 season. In the years from 1986 to 1998 with the Düsseldorfer EG he celebrated his greatest sporting successes. He was German champion five times (1990–1993 and 1996) with DEG .

In 1998 he returned to his hometown to ESC Munich in the 2nd League South for a year before ending his career as an active player at the end of the 1999/2000 season in the major league with Ratinger Ice Aliens .

The defender scored 15 goals in 210 full international matches .

Others

As an expert, Andreas Niederberger comments on ice hockey reports on television and in the 2006/07 season he worked as a coach for the DEG Metro Stars student team. Since the 2007/08 season he coached the DEG DNL team.
