Yasin Ehliz (born December 30, 1992 in Bad Tölz ) is a German ice hockey player of Turkish origin who, before joining EHC Red Bull Munich , was under contract with the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League until November 2018 and for their farm team, the Stockton Heat , used in the American Hockey League . The winger previously spent eight years with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . With the German national team , he won the silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics .
Career
Yasin Ehliz began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of EC Bad Tölz , for whose U18 juniors he was initially active in the German youth league from 2007 to 2010 . At the same time, he made his debut for the first team of EC Bad Tölz in the third-class league in the 2009/10 season . In the 2010/11 season , the winger ran parallel to the game with Bad Tölz in the major league with a license for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League . He made his DEL debut for the Franks on October 28, 2010 in a 5-4 win against the Iserlohn Roosters . In the playoffs in 2011 he was again on the ice for the DNL team from Bad Tölz. In the following season he already played 35 games for the Ice Tigers and scored his first four DEL goals. He was also used for the Tölzer professional team and won the championship with the top division team in 2012. From the 2012/13 season , Yasin Ehliz was an integral part of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers team.
After eight years in Nuremberg, Ehliz decided to move to North America after the 2017/18 season and signed a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League (NHL) in June 2018 . They used the attacker on their farm team , the Stockton Heat , in the American Hockey League (AHL). For this he played four AHL appearances before his contract was terminated in November 2018.
On November 7, 2018, EHC Red Bull Munich announced the signing of Ehliz. He finished the main round in 2018/19 with his new team as runner-up in the table and was runner-up in the playoffs. He also reached the final of the Champions Hockey League with the Red Bulls , which they lost 3-1 to Frölunda HC . The main round of the 2019/20 season ended with the EHC first in the table, but the playoffs were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no champions were determined. Ehliz was able to collect 40 scorer points (22 goals) in 51 games this season and ended the season with a plus / minus balance of +14.
International
Although Ehliz called himself “one hundred percent (as) a Turk”, he plays internationally for Germany . So he took part in the U18 Junior World Championship of Division I in 2010 , in which he and his team achieved promotion to the top division. He contributed to this success with three goals and five assists in his five missions.
On December 18, 2013, Yasin Ehliz was the second player of Turkish origin after Sinan Akdağ to make his debut in the senior national team and took part in the 2014 , 2015 and 2017 world championships. Ehliz celebrated his greatest success by winning the silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
