Keith Aulie began his career as a hockey player with the Brandon Wheat Kings , for whom he was active from 2005 to 2009 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . For their farm team Abbotsford Heat , he completed 43 games in the American Hockey League in the 2009/10 season , scoring two goals and four assists.
As part of a larger transfer business, he was given to the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 31, 2010 together with Dion Phaneuf and Fredrik Sjöström in exchange for Niklas Hagman , Jamal Mayers , Matt Stajan and Ian White from Calgary , for whose AHL farm team Toronto Marlies he was only played until the end of the season. The 2010/11 season began Aulie first with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL before he is a regular place in the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League earned. In his debut season in the NHL, the Canadian scored two goals in 40 games.
On February 27, 2012, the Toronto Maple Leafs transferred him to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Carter Ashton . In early July 2014, he signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers , which was subsequently not renewed. In preparation for the season he took part on a trial (professional tryout contract) at the Arizona Coyotes training camp , but was not given a contract. In November 2015 he played three weeks on a trial basis for the Springfield Falcons in the AHL, where he was also not permanently committed. Due to a lack of prospects in North America, Aulie decided to move to Europe in January 2016 and hired at HIFK Helsinki from the Finnish Liiga .
After holding positions in the AHL, Aulie was signed by EHC Red Bull Munich from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) in mid-December 2017 .
