Robert "Bobby" Sanguinetti (born February 29, 1988 in Trenton , New Jersey ) is an American ice hockey player of Italian descent who has been under contract with the EHC Red Bull Munich from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since September 2019 and there on the position of the defender plays.
Career
Sanguinetti began his career with the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League . In the 2006 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the New York Rangers in the first round at position 21. After an excellent 2006/07 season in the junior division with 23 goals for the Owen Sound Attack, he was able to gain his first experience as a so-called try-out player in the Rangers AHL farm team. In five games he posted three assists. The following season he began again in the OHL, but this time with the Brampton Battalion . There he got 29 goals and 70 scorer points.
After he was eliminated with Brampton in the OHL playoffs, Sanguinetti played again for Hartford. With the start of the 2008/09 season he was an integral part of the Wolf Pack squad. Thanks to the good performance in his first full season in the AHL, he was nominated for the AHL All-Star Classic . In the training camp of the New York Rangers for the 2009/10 season , the defender had long hopes for a place in the Rangers squad, as previously only four defender positions were taken. But to his disadvantage, the last two places were given to Michael Del Zotto and Matt Gilroy , whereupon he was sent back to Hartford to gain further experience.
From 2010 to 2013, Sanguinetti spent three years in the organization of the Carolina Hurricanes , for which the defender played 40 NHL games. In July 2013 he was signed for two seasons by Atlant Mytishchi from the Continental Hockey League . After only one year, however, the Vancouver Canucks signed him . After another year in which he was used exclusively in the AHL with the Utica Comets , he signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers and played exclusively with the Rochester Americans farm team in the AHL during the 2015/16 season .
On June 6, 2016 he was presented as a newcomer at EHC Kloten from the Swiss National League A (NLA). With the EHC, the American won the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup during the season . Nevertheless, he moved within the league to HC Lugano after the season , but did not receive a follow-up contract there in the summer of 2018, although he had won the runner-up with the team. It took until the beginning of January 2019 before he found a new employer in his ex-team Charlotte Checkers from the AHL by the end of the 2018/19 season . He had previously recommended himself for a new contract as a guest player for HC Davos at the Spengler Cup 2018 . With the Checkers he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season . At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, however, the defensive player turned his back on the American continent and was hired again in Europe. There he signed a contract with the multiple German champions EHC Red Bull Munich from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
International
Sanguinetti represented his home country at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2008 in the Czech Republic . He scored one goal in six games and prepared two more. The team finished fourth after losing to Canada in the semifinals and Russia in the game for third place. He then represented the USA at the 2018 Winter Olympics , where he finished seventh with the team that competed without an NHL player.
