Zachary Thomas "Zach" Redmond (born July 26, 1988 in Houston , Texas ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Red Bull Munich in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since April 2020, where he holds the position of Defender plays. Before that, Redmond played exclusively in North America, where he played 133 games for the Winnipeg Jets , Colorado Avalanche , Canadiens de Montréal and Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Career
Redmond began his career in the 2005/06 season with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the American Junior League United States Hockey League and was active there for two seasons. Between 2007 and 2011 he was on the ice for the university team of Ferris State University in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , which is incorporated into the game operations of the NCAA .
In April 2011 he was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers from the National Hockey League (NHL), who used him for the remainder of the 2011/12 season with the Chicago Wolves farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL). After the Thrashers organization was relocated to Winnipeg and henceforth competed as the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL, the farm team also changed and the defender played for the St. John's IceCaps in the AHL in the 2011/12 season . In the following season, Redmond made his debut in the NHL and completed a total of eight games for the Jets , but still spent much of his time with the IceCaps . In July 2014, the right-shooter moved within the league to the Colorado Avalanche , where he received a two-year contract until the end of the 2015/16 season. This was not subsequently extended, so that Redmond joined the Canadiens de Montréal as a free agent in July 2016 .
After a year in Montréal, Redmond was given to the Buffalo Sabers in October 2017 in exchange for Nicolas Deslauriers . He ended the season with the Sabers and then signed a limited-AHL two-year contract with the Rochester Americans in June 2018 , where he has already been used for most of the past season. In the AHL, the American was awarded the Eddie Shore Award at the end of the 2018/19 season and was appointed to the AHL First All-Star Team . After three years with the Amerks , Redmond moved to Europe for the first time in his career in summer 2020, where he joined the EHC Red Bull Munich from the German Ice Hockey League .
International
At the 2015 World Cup , Redmond represented his home country for the first time on an international level and won the bronze medal.
