Konrad Abeltshauser (born September 2, 1992 in Bad Tölz ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Red Bull Munich from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since January 2016 and plays there in the position of defender .

Career

Abeltshauser comes from the offspring of EC Bad Tölz , the association of his native town. There played until the end of the 2008/09 season, the last two years in the U18 selection of the club in the German junior league DNL . After a good 2008/09 season with 44 points from 36 games, the defender was selected in the first round of the 2009 CHL Import Draft in 28th place by the Halifax Mooseheads from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec .

The defender finally moved overseas to the Mooseheads for the 2009/10 season . There Abeltshauser collected 25 scorer points in 48 games, but showed considerable problems in his defensive work with a plus / minus of −13. Nevertheless, the German was selected in the sixth round in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in 163rd position by the San Jose Sharks , who had already secured the transfer rights of young German players several times in the past. Abeltshauser finally took part in the fall of 2010 in the season preparatory training camp of the franchise from the National Hockey League , but soon returned to Halifax. The trend of the previous year continued there. He improved offensively but didn't improve defensively. The San Jose Sharks kept their option on the defender despite the stagnation and invited him back to training camp in autumn 2011, where he made a good impression. The 19-year-old agreed with the club to spend another season in the LHJMQ. In April 2012 Abeltshauser signed an entry level contract with the San Jose Sharks.

The Sharks initially used it on their farm teams, the Worcester Sharks from the American Hockey League and the Allen Americans from the ECHL . Abeltshauser won the Kelly Cup with the Americans in 2015 .

In June 2015, the Sharks gave him to the St. Louis Blues for a success-based seven-round vote in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . They used him on their AHL farm team, the Chicago Wolves , where the defender was only used irregularly. In January 2016, they agreed to terminate his contract, so that a few days later he joined EHC Red Bull Munich , with whom he became German champion in 2016. Following the main round in 2016/17, he was awarded the title “DEL Defender of the Year” and with the team he defended the German championship.

International

Abeltshauser represented his home country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2009 , the U18 Junior World Championship 2009 , the U20 Junior World Championship Division I 2010 , the U18 Junior World Championship Division I 2010 , the U20 Junior World Championship 2011 and U20 Junior World Championship in Division IA 2012 .

In 2010 he made promotion from Division I to the top division with both the U20 and U18 teams. After the direct relegation with the U20 team in 2011, he was promoted again in the 2012 World Cup - when he was team captain . When he was promoted to the U18 team in 2010, he was the top defender of the tournament with eleven points . He repeated the same thing at the U20 World Junior Championship of the A group in Division I in 2012 and was also voted the best defender of the tournament and best player on his team. In addition, he achieved the best plus / minus statistics of the tournament at the U20 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2012 .
