The 1985/86 season of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga was the 13th season of the second highest German ice hockey division. Although the preliminary round was dominated in the south by Augsburger EV and in the north by BSC Prussia , the Frankfurter Eintracht team rose to the Bundesliga at the end of the season . The Bundesliga relegated SV Bayreuth took the starting place in the second division . The Berliners lacked a victory for promotion. Augsburg, which started the preliminary round with 30 wins in a row, ultimately failed in a direct comparison with SC Riessersee .
In the southern group, a year after the ERC Freiburg left the EHC Freiburg, a team from Freiburg im Breisgau started again . 40 points were deducted from the Krefeld EV after it became known that Randy Spielvogel, contrary to the information provided by the club, was burdening the quota of foreigners. Due to the insolvency after the preliminary round, EC Braunlage was determined to be relegated early on, plus VfL Waldkraiburg , who withdrew their team, and EHC Essen-West , who were relegated in terms of sport.
mode
As in the previous season , the league was played on two tracks again. After increasing the group north, both seasons started with ten teams. First, a preliminary round was played in the form of a double or two and a half round. The best four teams from both groups then took part in the relegation round to the Bundesliga , while the remaining teams had to play in the relegation rounds in the north and south together with representatives of the respective top leagues for their starting place in the league. This round was held in two groups for the first time in the north.
