history

ESV Schalke Haie

In the 1984/85 season, a Gelsenkirchner team played for the first time with the club ESV Schalker Haie in the regional league and immediately rose to the Oberliga Nord . After the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga North , the game had to be stopped there due to financial problems.

Schalker Haie 87

In the 1987/88 season, a new club Schalker Haie 87 rose to the Regionalliga West and was able to rise to the Oberliga Nord for the 1990/91 season , which could be held until the 1993/94 season . With the new division into the league as part of the introduction of the German Ice Hockey League for the 1994/95 season, the Schalker Haie team was divided into the - now second class - 1st League North . In the 1994/95 season, the Schalke Haie 87, during the lockout in the National Hockey League, the Czech national player Jaromír Jágr under contract. His salary was financed by various sponsors. Jágr, however, only played one league game for the Gelsenkirchen team and scored one goal and ten assists . In the summer of 1995, the club had to stop playing.

Gelsenkirchen EC "Schalker Haie"

The Gelsenkirchen EC "Schalker Haie" was founded as the successor club to Schalker Haie 87, and its team was promoted to the 2nd division north in the 1996/97 season .

After the league reached in the 1997/98 season was no longer carried out, the GEC team played a season in the national association, where the renewed promotion to the - now third-class - 1st League North succeeded. In the 2000/01 season, the team was excluded from playing in the Oberliga Nord at the end of October 2000 and the club was later dissolved. At the same time as the EHC Gelsenkirchen, attempts were made to start senior games with the newly founded EC Schalker Haie for the 2002/03 season, but this did not succeed.

EHC Gelsenkirchen

The EHC Gelsenkirchen was founded in 2000 as a follow-up to the Gelsenkirchner EC "Schalker Haie". The aim of this new foundation was to give the youth in Gelsenkirchen the opportunity to play ice hockey. After the club entered into a cooperation with the Revierlöwen Oberhausen in the years 2003 to 2006 and thus its teams took part in games under the Oberhausen name, the club has been independent since 2006 after the Revierlöwen terminated the cooperation agreement. During the 2006/07 season the first senior team played in the - sixth class - Landesliga NRW. After a less successful season, the squad was strengthened with experienced and young players. So some of the "old sharks" returned to Gelsenkirchen.

In the 2007/08 season the Schalker Haie - the senior team - won the unbeaten championship in the - sixth class - Landesliga NRW Group B. Then the team took part in the promotion round to the association league NRW. With a tenth place, you missed the qualification for the Association League NRW and was thus again only eligible to play for the Landesliga NRW. The team's best scorer was striker Eric Daniels, who scored 27 points in 10 games. At the end of the season, the Schalker Haie management dissolved the senior team, while the EHC youth teams continued to play.

Since the 2008/09 season, the EHC has been participating in the games of the North Rhine-Westphalia Ice Hockey Association with at least three junior teams. For the 2018/19 season, the U17 team was dissolved and the newly formed teams in the U7 and U9 age groups were added to the game.
