Joe Gibbs (ice hockey player)

Joseph Thomas "Joe" Gibbs (born July 11, 1960 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey official and former player. He is the managing director of the German second division club Kassel Huskies .

Career

Gibbs moved from Canada to Germany in 1979 to continue his career as an ice hockey player. The center forward played in Germany for WSV Braunlage , TuS Geretsried, HC Zweibrücken and ERC Rödermark . After the end of his playing career, he became the manager of ESV Kaufbeuren . In 1999 he moved to the Kassel Huskies and took over the positions of managing director and sports manager at the DEL club. During his tenure, among other things, the advance into the DEL playoff semi-finals in 2000, 2001 and 2002 fell. In July 2005, he left the Huskies. In August 2006 Gibbs became managing director of Nürnberg Ice Tigers . He left the club after the 2006/07 season, in which Nuremberg was German runner-up.

In 2008 he founded a sports marketing agency. In September 2009, Gibbs was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League (NHL) from talent scouts for Europe. In July 2014 Gibbs took over the position of managing director of the newly founded Kasseler Sport & Entertainment GmbH, the operating company of the Kassel Huskies, and after the 2014/15 season received the award of DEL2 Manager of the Year. During his tenure, the Huskies became DEL2 champions in 2016.
