from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tim Kehler (born July 5, 1971 in Victoria , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey coach . Since December 2018 he has been the head coach of the Kassel Huskies .

Career

Kehler played as a professional in the 1994/95 season for ESV Bayreuth in Germany. That remained the only foreign station during his playing career.

From 2002, Kehler worked for almost ten years as a coach at various clubs in the North American junior leagues PIJHL, BCHL and WHL. After the 2010/11 season he was named coach of the year in the BCHL .

For the 2012/13 season he accepted an offer from Hungary and looked after the Miskolci Jegesmedve JSE club in the MOL as head coach. In addition, he put his skills at the service of the Hungarian ice hockey association, was the head coach of the U20 national team and assistant coach of the senior national team under Rich Chernomaz .

Chernomaz hired him in his work as sports director of the Löwen Frankfurt in May 2015 as head coach for the 2013/14 league season. Under Kehler's leadership, the lions rose to the DEL2 in 2014 and achieved 49 wins in a row, his contract was extended in April 2014. In the 2014/15 season he led the Frankfurt team to the semi-finals of the DEL2 playoffs. There the lions were eliminated from the fish town penguins .

In January 2015, Kehler's contract in Frankfurt was optionally extended until the end of the 2015/16 season. On December 21, 2015, the Lions announced the separation from Kehler. The reasoning stated that the team had not developed in the right direction in the previous weeks, especially the yield from the home games was not satisfactory. At the time of Kehler's dismissal, the Lions were fourth in the DEL2 , 13 points behind first place. The team had lost five of eight games in the previous weeks.

For the 2016/17 season, Kehler was assistant coach under Greg Poss at EC Red Bull Salzburg from the Austrian ice hockey league . He stayed there until the end of the 2017/18 season. From November 2018 he formed the coaching team for the Kassel Huskies in DEL2 together with Bobby Carpenter , and in mid-December 2018 he became the sole responsible head trainer for the "sled dogs".
