Richard Mueller (born May 6, 1982 in Richmond , British Columbia ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who is currently under contract with the Kassel Huskies in the DEL2 . In his career he played with Eisbären Berlin and Hamburg Freezers in the DEL as well as in Canada and Sweden.
Career
The 1.79 meter tall winger began his career in the Canadian Junior League WHL , where he was on the ice for the Brandon Wheat Kings , the Saskatoon Blades and the Calgary Hitmen . After a year in the team of the University of Calgary in the Canadian college game operation of the CIS , the right-handed shooter moved to the Eisbären Berlin Juniors in the Oberliga Nord-Ost for the 2004/05 season .
After good performance, the Canadian was appointed to the DEL squad of the Eisbären Berlin, with which he was three times German champion ( 2005 , 2006 and 2008 ) and once German cup winner ( 2008 ). When the Eisbären Berlin signed Richard Mueller in 2004, they probably expected, because of his German father, that he would soon no longer be covered by the foreign contingent. However, Mueller only received German citizenship in 2007.
For the 2008/09 season , Mueller moved to league rivals Hamburg Freezers , where he signed a two-year contract. His good performance in his first year in Hamburg (18 goals) led to his appointment to the German national ice hockey team , in his second season in Hamburg he was unable to continue this performance due to injuries and the Freezers also ended the season on a disappointing penultimate Table position.
For the 2010/11 season he signed a contract with the DEL club Kassel Huskies , but after Kassel had to file for bankruptcy and received no license for the season, he started the season at ERC Ingolstadt , which Mueller had with a contract for the longer injured Thomas Greilinger at the end of the year. After a generally bad season for the Audistädter, his contract was not renewed after a record of 3 goals in 18 league games, and he ended the season in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga with the Eispiraten Crimmitschau , with whom he played especially in the relegation games Relegation could secure.
The German-Canadian started the 2011/12 season with a trial contract with the Straubing Tigers from the DEL, but could not recommend himself and played the rest of the season in the 2nd Swedish Ice Hockey League at Tingsryds AIF .
For the 2012/13 season he returned to Germany and signed a contract with Lausitzer Füchsen from the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey. Here he was able to excel as a preparer with 27 assists, but the 8 goals in 50 games of the season remained below expectations.
For the 2013/14 season he moved to the third-highest German ice hockey league and joined the top division squad of the ambitious Löwen Frankfurt, which also made it to the second-highest German ice hockey league - DEL2 at the end of the season. In his first second division season for Frankfurt he was the top scorer in the league with 40 goals and extended his contract with the Lions prematurely. In the 2015/16 season , Mueller was the third top scorer in the DEL2 with 36 goals in 47 games after the main round. In the 2016/17 season he won the DEL2 championship title with the Lions. On the way to this triumph he scored 34 hits in 59 games and prepared 24 more goals, with his 28 hits in the main round this time meant fourth place in the DEL2's list of goalscorers.
As early as the summer of 2016, Mueller agreed a two-year collaboration with Bavarian league competitor SC Riessersee , which after his contract with the Frankfurter Löwen, which expired in spring 2017, for which he had scored 261 points of 153 goals in a total of 219 games, with the DEL2- The 2017/18 season came into force. With SC Riessersee he was runner-up in the DEL2 and contributed 46 goals and 49 assists in 69 games during the 2017/18 season. After Riessersee withdrew from the DEL2, he switched to the Kassel Huskies within the league at the beginning of June 2018 .
International
In 2008, Mueller was appointed to the German national ice hockey team for the first time by the then national coach Uwe Krupp . In total, he scored 5 goals for the national team in 7 games - at the 2010 Winter Olympics, which took place near his birthplace in Vancouver, he was not nominated due to a previous injury.
